U.S. Senate candidate David Young changes gears, will run for Congress instead

David Young, the former staffer to U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley who has been running for the last year as a candidate for the U.S. Senate, is shifting gears and now will run for the U.S. House in 2014.

Young, who owns a home in Van Meter, told the Des Moines Register on Thursday that he will vie for the open seat representing Iowa’s 3^rd Congressional District.

The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Tom Latham, a 10-term Republican incumbent who is retiring at the end of his term.

In an exclusive interview, Young said when he began pondering a run for elective office he had the 3^rd in mind, assuming that Latham would run for the Senate seat opened by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin’s retirement in 2014.
