State of the Union: Rep. Barton says President played to his base, no real substance in speech

WASHINGTON — The following information was released by the office of Texas Rep. Joe Barton:

Rep. Barton (Arlington/Ennis) released the following statement after attending the President Obama’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night:

“I thought the President did a good job on his presentation, but in terms of content, I would say it was a Coke Zero type of speech — no calories. He made almost no attempt to work with Congress. In fact, he spent almost as much time talking about things he was going to do by Executive Order as he did asking Congress to help him move legislation.
