Congressman Billy Long and Senator Roy Blunt Comment After Senate Votes to Re-Open Government
Both U.S. Congressman Billy Long and U.S. Senator Roy Blunt issued statements following the Senate vote to re-open the federal government.
Long voted no on legislation to increase the nation’s debt limit. According to Long, “simply raising the debt limit is not the answer to fixing our nation’s fiscal mess.” He says we need “to look at the drivers of our spending so vital programs will be available for today’s seniors and for our children and grandchildren.”
After the Senate voted to re-open the government, Blunt said, “the federal government spends too much and borrows too much.” According to Blunt, those need to be the two main targets after Wednesday’s vote until the government gets spending under control. He said the government needs to debate priorities, set priorities and live within its means.
